He couldn’t ask Jack to do anything he wasn’t willing to do himself.

Almost anything.

This was one sacrifice Bill could make.

Goodbye Karen. Leaving you is the only thing I regret.

He looked over at Jack. I know he won’t let us down.

Bill charged for the door.

“We’re going to need his spinal fluid. And possibly his organs.”

“Which organs?” Tony asked.

Why do I even care?

“All of then.”

“Then get started.”

The other man nodded and entered the makeshift surgical suite. In the large hanger, it looked like a small alien space ship had landed. All white and sterile.

Maybe not that sterile. Not that it mattered.

A few moments later Tony heard the wails coming from behind the thick plastic curtain.

Jack screams like a girl.

Tony didn’t need to watch. Or listen

Tony walked away. It was time to make his final play.

He hadn’t expected this.

He had imagined his death thousands of times. His life would end with a gunshot, or with an explosion, or with an interrogation that went too far. Or in a filthy prison cell.

Not in bed, in a modern hospital, peacefully and painlessly, with as much dignity as the situation allowed.

He hadn’t expected to be forgiven.

He hadn’t expected anybody to care.

Dr. Macer’s injection had thrown a warm, dark blanket over everything. He could no longer speak or move, but he knew that Kim was in the room with him. He could feel her holding his hands and he could hear her voice and Dr. Macer’s voice.

“Ms. Bauer, we’re ready for you.” Dr. Macer said.

Ready for what? Jack wondered. Why is she even here?

There was a reason. Somewhere. He just couldn’t remember what it was.

Jack did remember that Kim was here even though he had begged her to stay away.

He should have been angry. Or embarassed.

He wasn’t.

Jack felt his daughter kiss his forehead.

“I’ll see you soon,” she whispered.

Bill was dead. Jack was dying. Tony was is custody.

Of Bill’s off-book organization, I’m the only one left.

The flight was three hours behind schedule. Not a surprise.

As a result, Morris and Prescott had never left Washington. They were waiting for her in the departures lounge of David Palmer International Airport. Chloe entered into her husband’s arms.

“Sweetheart, I’m so sorry. I know that sounds trite, but I am,” Morris said gently as he kissed her forehead. “Tell me what’s going on.”

“They’re harvesting the stem cells now.”

“So there’s still a chance?”

“A small one.”

“What do you want to do?” Morris asked. He took her face between his hands.

“I want to go to the hospital. He’s my friend.”

“You told me that Jack is in a medically induced coma. He won’t even know that you’re there”

“I don’t care. I still want to be with him.”

“I thought you might. Let’s go.”

The little family left the airport. The place was still in chaos. Someone else could clean up the mess.

Re: Hearthbreaking
Thank you for reading. That was quite the season ending.

*throws things at Tony*

In the large hanger, it looked like a small alien space ship had landed. All white and sterile.

For some reason, this reminds me of that part in Independence Day where they all go to the secret laboratory at Area 51. That part where they're doing the alien autopsy, and the alien's not dead--I digress. >>;

Jack's part absolutely killed me dead. You're so good with these things that make me go "OUCH," you are.

Ah, the secret lab of horrible medical experiments. Have to have one of those.

You're so good with these things that make me go "OUCH," you are.

Fish in a barrel, my dear. 24 angst writes itself.

Jack screams like a girl
I got a "honey whats so funny" from the hubby after that line. Ahh, he wouldn't understand.
I'd love to see this line as a joke in a happier 'Tony isn't evil' fic.
Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, I didn't like Tony even when he was good. He has one facial expression-slightly constipated.

You're welcome!
