Well, the day we have all dreaded is here: Not Day 7 Premier Night. Dear friends: How are you coping with this filled-with-sucktitude situation? Are you reading a book? Watching DVD’s? Reading and writing fanfic? Muttering to yourself about the cosmic unfairness of it all? Doing something completely non pop-culture related? Please let me know.

Perhaps you are putting the situation in its proper context and not getting overly worked up about it. If so, good for you. And the frakking WGA strike did give a Certain Someone the opportunity to, um…dispense with his legal commitments. Here’s hoping the paparazzi is distracting by something Britney-related when our Man is released onto a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles.

I am repeating my mantra: It’s just a TV show, Dammit. Can’t say I’m convincing myself. I am watching Six Feet Under, which a friend recommended. I am listening to Nine Inch Nails. (Thank you, sardonicynic ) I might check out The Sarah Connor Chronicles, if the time slot doesn’t fill me with seething, seething, resentment. I am taking comfort in the fact that I will see at least some Lost later this winter and fresh Battlestar Galactica this spring. Yay!

So all is not...Lost. Ahem

I have noticed a surge of high-quality fic on 24_fanfic lately. My heartfelt thanks to everyone whose been posting and commenting. And even to all you lurkers. You know who you are. Here’s hoping that our fannish efforts will see us through the dry spell.

I'm...not thinking about it. That's my way of dealing although I've been a giant bitch to a whole number of people.

I bought the new 24 novel which was *awful* - just awful. It took place in 2007 (I think) and was still pre-season one! And kept using real world history post 9/11 and was so damn confusing. But the biggest sin was the lack of any 24 character other than Jack and the criminal misuse of him. Seriously, you have Jack Bauer and you don't give us *any* of his inner thoughts. And no freakin' way that Philip would let him have work in construction when he was a teenager. Sorry. Major fail.

I kept wondering if it was even the same Jack as he was in his mid-30s and thought about the Balkans with no angst whatsoever.

I refuse to watch the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I just refuse. I'm in favor of the strike but I wish they could have settled a long time ago. Watching shows without writers is just painful :(

Except oddly letterman who should be 10000 times better than anyone else since he has writers and somehow...isn't.

Haven’t read the 24 novels. Don’t intend to. Haven’t heard good things about them. Fanfic is so much better. *Pats self on back*

Did 9/11 happen in the official canon? I thought that the show takes place in some sort of alternate universe. Calculations have put Day 6 around 2010 or 2011.

I’m kinda liking writerless Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

So much better.

Um...it's not really clear. I think it did. It's also kind of clear that Bush was never President but that can be debated.

Exactly. Although I think 2012/2013 - but that means season one cannot have been AFTER 2008.

I actually love the novels. Haven't read the new one so far, but the rest was pretty good. Chaos Theory is my favourite. :) But I have to admit, I'm not that picky about timeline (for me 24 takes place in it's own universe) and if it really fits into canon. I just need as many 24 fixes as I can get and they do that rather good. Also there is so much lame fanfic out there, I would ratherh read one of the novels than dig through fanfic.net for example. :)

I think what I'm going to miss the most besides the show itself was the community that my friends and I had built surrounding the show itself. I mean, we'd go over to one another's houses, cook dinner, play some board games, shoot the breeze and catch up on one another's weeks.

And then we'd sit down in our favorite spots (mine was on my stomach with my chin propped in my hand underneath Valerie who would normally claim the papasan chair) and watch - each of us usually with our brows furrowed from something Division had just done or jaws hanging open at the latest feat Jack was able to accomplish.

Then we'd talk about the probability of that even being able to happen or the relevence to the current political climate or debate the moral quandries that the show presented to us week in and week out.

I think that's what I'm gonna miss the most about it. :(

ETA: Although, tonight? Definitely glad it wasn't on because the five hours that would've eaten up my evening in order to participate in above-mentioned activities were spent doing homework that I had put off until the last minute.

...then again, I might not have put it off had the show been on...it's a conundrum.

How's this for irony: My phone, internet and digital cable has been knocked out (I’m on a neighbor’s network) So I would have missed tonight’s episode!

Yeah, I get the social aspect: I was planning on watching it with a friend and then phoning Mom to discuss the show in great detail. Good Times.

I'm trying to not think about it, but my mood has hit the floor during the last few days, so I guess I can't push it away completely.

What I'm doing instead? Watching lots of other stuff. We will finish The Sopranos tonight. Afterwards we want to watch 'The Lost Room' and 'Heroes' Season 1. At the moment I'm reading the 24 and Philosophy book. Afterwards I will start the new 24 novel that I got a couple of days ago. And I still need to catch up with reading 24_fanfic on lj. *g*

Plus that I'm trying to restart writing fanfic again.

So, I don't think I will be bored, but it still feels like something is missing. :(

Ooooooh! Lucky you! I LOVE Six Feet Under. It's been soo long since we finished the last season. *sigh* Sometimes shows definitely end too soon. :(
